Humanitarian Distribution in Plemetina Camp, Kosovo by German Sector of Union of Balkan Egyptians

The Union of Balkan Egyptians sent 300 €'s and 2 large bags full of used children's clothing, shoes, games, toys collected in the GGS "Saarnerstr"(Primary School- Saarnerstr.) in Mülheim an der Ruhr,to Macedonia on 25.12.03 delivered by Mukerem, who had traveled from Dusseldorf, Germany on her way to spend the holidays with her family in Ohrid. The bus stoped for exactly 11/2 minutes to remove the bags, hand over the money and for the recipient, Frederika Sumelius to sign a receipt for "monies received." The bus started taking off and Mukerem had to run to get back on it!

Frederika communicated with Veton and Astrit who provided information about when staff would be available on location to help in the distribution and with statistics of the children. It was decided to give about 1.5 €'s worth of candy to 201 children between the ages of 1 and 15. And the clothing would be distributed to the poorest and neediest families.

On December 27, 2003, Frederika, accompanied by her son-in-law Jim who was visiting for the holidays from Finland, had agreed to meet Astrit in Pristina to purchase the candy from a local store and to load them up in the car and then to proceed to the camp, approximately 5 km away, to meet Bajrush Berisa, head of the Camp School, to make the distribution together.

Each child was given a bag with candy, chips and a balloon in it and their names was checked off on the print out list that Bajrush had prepared for the distribution. The whole distribution was photographed, the filling of the bags plus the distribution. And the whole distribution was really quite wonderful to be a part of and to see the surprise of the happy children and their families. There were no problems and everyone helping was wonderful and very happy to be a part of this group.

Then we delegated the clothing according to the neediest families in the Camp and decided that there were 12. We delegated the clothing according to the members in the family and what the size and quantity that each respective family would need. The 12 clothing distributions were hand delivered personally by Frederika and her son-in-law in person.

Everything went very well and left a lot of opportunity for all future distributions too! It was very clear that the clothing was very badly needed by all families, especially for children.

Bajrush Berisha announced several times that the distribution was donated by The Union of Balkan Egyptians in Germany. And there was cheering, whistling and applauding from happiness, like the whole ambience that day!
